\The Police department in Sevier country which covers the Pigeon Forge, TN area had a camp last week for kids ages 11-14. The purpose of the camp was to educate children about the role and skills of a police officer. The camp gave the kids the opportunity to learn these skills in a good environment where they can taught the appropriate time and measures to use. It is important in this day for children to be able to defend themselves but also have the knowledge to only use their knowledge powers when they are necessary. They learn basic defense techniques in case they needed them. But they were told what not to try and their brothers and sisters at home.
This camp has been a great opportunity for kids that are from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville to learn while they are having fun. This camp also gave the kids on opportunity to step away from the TV and computer and be active. Some of the activities include, investigations (who done it?), practicing with hand cuffs, riding in a police car, learning laws, driving a golf cart with special glasses that distorts their perception and more! This camp was a great thing for the 25 kids that were involved. And it wasn’t just for boys, there were girls there too! There were even of the police officers there which was neat because they got an opportunity to learn about what their dad or mom does everyday.
