It’s July in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and this year looks like it’s going to be one of the hottest in history! With temperatures rising, you may be tempted to hunker down in your cabin with the air conditioning, abandoning your plans of exploring the exciting town and it’s attractions.
But never fear, we’re here to keep you cool on your Pigeon Forge vacation! You won’t want to miss everything the city has to offer, from Parkway shopping to, of course, Dollywood! Check out our helpful hints below for tips on how to stay cool on your Pigeon Forge vacation.
Tip #1: Invest in a windshield reflector. While you may think the bulky, cumbersome items are more trouble then that are worth, you will appreciate the work it does when you return to your car after browsing the downtown strip! Your car bakes in the sun all day, so keeping it cool and comfortable is the first step in making your adventure downtown a fun one.
Tip #2: Drink water! The no-brainer tip of this blog, drinking lots of water is one of the first steps to keep your body cool. By staying hydrated, your body has enough fluid to cool itself effectively through sweat and other cooling mechanisms. Buy a case of water before your vacation, then store it in your fridge and drink it instead of canned, sugary drinks which can dehydrate you. Pack a cooler for your car on the days you plan to spend out and about!
Tip #3: Choose the right clothes. This is important for your whole family, from the son who wants to wear his black band shirt to the daughter who refuses to take off her boots with the fur. Encourage them to wear light colored, loose fitting cotton clothing to reflect the sun’s rays and enjoy any breeze there may be.
Tip #4: Dine wisely. Although those tongue-scorching hot wings may sound delicious from the comfort of the restaurant, it may not be the best idea once you get back to the sun. Choose cool and cold food, such as chilled fruit, pasta salad and popsicles and eat in small, frequent meals to keep your body temperature regulated.
Tip #5: Choose the indoor mall. If the heat is simply unbearable, you don’t have to bail on all of your plans! Head to Dollywood’s Splash Country in Pigeon Forge for a fun day at the water park, or head to the outlet malls for an air-conditioned shopping day. Don’t limit yourself to your cabin, instead, explore all that Pigeon Forge has to offer!
Tip #6: Rent a cabin with a pool or pool access…need we say more?
